SIlver State Fence and Stain

Wow. Just wow.

I DON'T recommend. Because, we sure didn't get what we had bargained for or paid for or what Silver State Fence had agreed to do or is supposed to do as a licensed contractor.

It's quite clear Silver State Fence doesn't care about its reputation. NOT a single negative review here is responded to by them attempting to make it right for their customers, although their account is "claimed" here on Yelp.

In violation of our contract with Silver State Fence one installer cut some of the posts and the pickets down making them too short. He was also yelling at the other installer because he spent more time on his cell phone, spilled concrete and missed hitting the posts while installing the pickets.

We tried several times to get the posts and pickets corrected and the spilled concrete cleaned up. Finally, and with great grumbling from Silver State Fence, that was all sorta corrected.

The installer who was yelling at the other installer then threw a temper tantrum and walked off the job. The other installer finally got off his their phone but only to yell at him as he walked off the job for leaving him alone.

Then the City cited us for not have a building permit.

We contacted Silver State Fence. No response.

We contacted again. No response.

We contacted again and again and again. No response again and again and again.

After more than a month an AJ showed up. Said he would take care of it all. Turns out he was just blowing smoke at us as he didn't. We never heard back from him or Silver State Fence.

Then we found out Silver State Fencing failed to give us the required Recovery Fund Disclosure, and that it is the contractor who's presumed to have violated the building laws when they commence work without the necessary building permit.

NRS 624.520  Contractor required to notify owner of rights related to account; written statement; administrative fine for noncompliance.

1.  A residential contractor shall notify an owner with whom he or she contracts of the rights of the owner pursuant to NRS 624.400 to 624.560, inclusive, including, without limitation, providing a written statement explaining those rights in any agreement or contract for qualified services. The written statement must be in substantially the following form:

RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION RECOVERY FUND

Payment may be available from the Recovery Fund if you are damaged financially by a project performed on your residence pursuant to a contract, including construction, remodeling, repair or other improvements, and the damage resulted from certain specified violations of Nevada law by a contractor licensed in this State. To obtain information relating to the Recovery Fund and filing a claim for recovery from the Recovery Fund, you may contact the State Contractors' Board.

NRS 624.3011(2) - If a contractor performs construction without obtaining any necessary building permit, there is a rebuttable presumption that the contractor willfully and deliberately violated the building laws of this State or of its political subdivisions.

Since we're disabled and age 60 or over, the minimum fine to the contractor per NRS 624 is $10,000.

My experience from start to finish with Silver State Fence was the best including the price, which was the lowest and the best in town.

SS Fence installed a chain link and a wooden fence. The chain link fence did not properly fit, even though I gave detail specifics to the estimator and the installers. The installers threw their trash in my xeriscaping, and did not replace properly the xeriscaping the had to move for the installation. The black coating on the chain link was a mess. it took them three times out and supervisors to fix it. The wooden fence was improperly built to match the fence it fit into, and they returned to fix it without enough materials to match. And, they poured their cement leftovers in my gravel. I will never call them again.

I recently used Silver State Fence to replace a 15' fence with a 12' swing gate. They did quality work at a competitive price. They coordinated with my concrete contractor to get the work done as needed and they accommodated a late design change that I made. The finished product looks good and functions well. I would recommend them for anybody needing fence work.

We paid $14K for a fence + multi-gate project with Silver State several years ago. The main gate to our property, which they installed, was mis-measured and welded terribly, and for months would not properly open OR close. They finally - after countless phone calls and emails on my part - came back and "repaired" it, but it was still so poorly constructed that it's now permanently closed, unusable and barely rigged up with wire, as the welding has sheared off entirely. This is a nightmare in winter, as the gate is extremely heavy and must be open in snowy weather so cars can pass through. Worst of all, it leaves us without a safely fenced yard for our kids.

I have called Silver State countless times. I have emailed. I have met with nice people who assured me they'd run this up the flagpole, only to never get back to me again. I have tried and tried and tried, as has my husband. We are at our wits end here, and can honestly say this is the most unprofessional, grossly negligent job we've ever hired out as homeowners. It has also involved a HUGE amount of recapping and reviewing and stressing over a contract/design plan that was probably never even feasible to begin with. (As in digging up archived emails to have yet another argument with yet another Silver State person who will disappear yet again.)

It. Has. Been. Terrible.

Now when people come over and say, "Wow, ugh, who did this to your gate?" I tell them, loudly, and ask them to tell their friends. Now I'm telling you.

Gross as it feels to leave a bad review for a local business, this is truly next-level and something we tried to remedy many, many times. We also screwed up royally by paying these guys in the first place. I highly recommend you don't.

PS: I loved their stain guy. He has absolutely nothing to do with this.

I really hope they have better fence installers than drivers. Guy in white late model GMC cut me off and speeds McCarran and Mira Loma. I am the Secretary of a large HOA IN Sparks. Won't be using Silver State Fence. Jerk!

We just had a fence/gate installed by Silver State Fence in front of our house. It took 12 weeks but that happens everywhere these days. Needless to say, we are thrilled. We had a deadline for installation because of travel plans and really wanted that security before we left. Everyone at Silver State Fence was fantastic! From sales to office staff to installers, they were smart, professional, courteous (also hard to find these days) and especially patient with me when I was pushy (because of my travel plans). We are so pleased with the finished product and feel it adds considerable value to our property. Thank you Silver State Fence!!!

Had fence and gates installed about 18 months ago. After a year and half the barrel rollers seized up. Attempts were made to grease the hinges but they wouldn't take grease. Replaced zirks and they still wouldn't grease up. The bottom hinge completely seized up and the gate closer failed. I called Silver State for over three weeks and emailed them several times. It's been almost a month and my gates wouldn't open and we had to remove it to get in and out of our property. I finally had to call a reputable fence company to come out an fix their mess. The poor quality welds from Silver State should have been a contractors board complaint.

I was impressed with Silver State's response from the gate. Ron did the initial quote. He was professional and provided clear explanations for any questions we had. He responded quickly to a few changes we requested. We were wary of putting 50% down 3 months before the scheduled date. We were assured that the quoted price would be the cost irrespective of any increase of lumber cost. The 2 man crew worked tirelessly for 2 days to complete the job. I contacted Jess the Forman regarding a punch list that included one post that was not plumb. 2 days later Jess and the two men came out redid the post and completed the punch list.
We received quotes from 4 companies. Silver State was not the least expensive. We are pleased with the diligence of their team. Both the work crew and office staff are professional, friendly and especially responsive. They offer a verbal 2 year warranty. I welcome the opportunity to refer them. I expect to contact them in 20 years when it's time to replace the fence.

Recent winds tore out two areas of our fence . We got three estimates and went with them as they were the lowest and could get out here fast. Estimates were really varied in Reno..

He came out with two of his guys and they had it done in two hours and also fixed a couple loose boards for no charge. His guys were great and they had it fixed a week after the damage.

Jaime one of the guys assisting was professional and thorough. Will use them again though hopefully we won't have to.
