Tahoe City Lumber

As a carpenter, doing high-and home construction and remodeling in the area. I like coming to Tahoe City Lumber when I'm there near there. They have a great selection of lumber that is high-quality and they tool and hardware store is so convenient and well stocked. They do stock a decent selection of hardwoods as well as your standard Douglas fir, framing lumber.

Kinda annoyed. First, I got a quote for a bulk lumber order which was fine, but when I ordered, they upped the quantities and changed the board lengths. OK - shrug that off. Then delivery came and the lumber was crap. Many warped board and split ends. Called them to get some replacement boards but they ghosted me. Unfortunately, I thought I was ordering from Tahoe Truckee Lumber Company, so it's partially my fault.

All in all, deck is done, but it took far longer than I planned, not as nice as I hoped, and I have way too much scrap. I won't make this mistake again. Caveat Emptor.

Tahoe City Lumber is amazing, thanks to Justin's excellent service!! Twenty years ago I purchased log siding for my South Lake Tahoe home. After constructing a small addition this year, I needed more. With trepidation after so long a time, we called and indeed they had it in stock! With Justin's assistance, we never even had to drive up to Tahoe City - we ordered, paid, and had delivery within days. That excellent service enabled siding to be up and done before the forecasted storm. Thank you, Tahoe City Lumber, for being there over the years and for providing exactly what we needed, efficiently and with good cheer!!

When i first started going 5 years ago, the people there were really gruff and unfriendly. (They do lots of business with local contractors, and I suppose dealing with DIYers wasn't their favorite thing. But I am being charitable, since it is clearly a retail store.)

There has been some staff turnover, and now the counter people are friendly. Tom, the chief paint mixer is good at what he does, and knows his stuff.

That said, I go to the other hardware store in Tahoe City first, which is staffed well and is *super friendly*. I only head to this place when I need paint or other hard-to-find bits and pieces.

Horrible customer service. I felt like i they were doing me a favor by taking my money.

Located in Tahoe City they have the best yard on the North Shore. The lumber is always good and sometimes even cheaper then what you can get off the hill. I guess you need to get to know the guys but they have always been pleasant and helpful to me. It is a lumber yard, not a beauty parlor. Yes we now need to use the porto potty though considering the customer base the bathroom suffices. I guess except on those winter mornings. Otherwise enjoy your drive to Truckee.

Probably the best selection and most services of any lumber yard/hardware store from Homewood to Incline. It is, however, a bit gruff. What really drives me away from this place is some of the people there. Most are just indifferent, but my experience with a couple of them was unpleasant and unprofessional. I always try and buy local, but I would rather sell my soul and head to a big box retailer out of the basin than deal with some of these guys.

i have been in and out of tahoe city lumber for about a month now as i order material for my kitchen and bathroom. as a senior citizen, i am appalled!

i have always been polite smiled said thank you, i appreciate it etc. i was told today by mike that i am always angry and how much he has done for me and tried to help me...stop! i have never been angry til he confronted me and berated me in such a fashion as to be purely judgmental, as if he is doing me some big favor by doing his job! mike asked why i didn't have stuff delivered...i told him no one ever offered that to me...his answer, well, you didn't ask! really????? oh yea that's right everything is my fault...! this company does not like to deal with homeowners or do it yourselfers. they want the contractor's only! unless of course you know everything and they don't have to spend any time explaining things to you.

twice they sold me product that was not the length i ordered and twice i took the product rather than saying, i don't want it...i tried to support the local over priced establishment and this is what i got for it.

today, i picked up an order that was suppose to be 16' but i received 17' of course that cost more and of course they did not give me a price break. additionally when i placed this order i was addressed in a negative tone by john asking if i was ever going to pick up my previous special order! fyi i had picked that up a week prior! however, he was rude abrupt and basically a jerk! oh is that my fault too?

they had previously explained to me the first time around that unless they specify they get what ever is delivered...great so specify! how hard is that!?

well, after mike berated me today he had me in tears. i explained to him i often do not feel well as i have stage 4 cancer and a brain tumor, i am often very nauseous. i also explained to him i have had to go through being without a kitchen and bathroom for over 2 years which has caused me a great deal of stress which affects my health and how i feel! he could care less! did not say, oh i am sorry, i understand, thanks for sharing that with me, nothing! not that any of the information was his business, but i was trying to explain to him how i feel and why and the frustration and stress i have been under. after really stressing me out and bringing me to tears, i told him i would never come back again! it upset me so badly and only a cancer patient can understand what getting upset does to them...still others should care and show a bit of concern! ya think? nope not this company...they don't have any compassion!

i asked if they could put my order up on the roof for me and help me tie it down, but for liability reasons they could not do that...that's ok...i understand. after being berated for doing nothing wrong i walked out to my car in tears and proceeded to figure out how i was going to tie down my 17' order that was suppose to be 16' to the roof of my car as it did not fit inside my car... here comes mike walking out to my car to upset me even further! this time i was angry and i yelled at him from a distance to go the F away! like really, you are not going to help me so why are you coming outside to further upset me after you already brought me to tears!?

ok now if that wasn't enough the owner of the company comes out to yell at me further...lol first she repeatedly said, do you want us to deliver that for you? no, i said just go away...not caring to hear what her manager had said to me i was shouting it at her whether she wanted to hear it or not because it was totally on called for. i told her to just walk away...as i would deal with it myself. in the end, she just wanted to come out to tell me that if i come back they will call the cops and have me arrested for trespassing. really? how nice is that??? really? again, i did nothing what so ever wrong, but they wanted to turn this whole thing around as if i had.

i was having a pretty good day this morning starting out...felt pretty good no nausea which is always a plus with my health issues. after leaving TAHOE CITY LUMBER and while i type this i am extremely nauseous due to how i was treated and the stress they put me under. nausea has a mind of it's own as i never know when the nausea will subside and i will feel better.

i hope TAHOE CITY LUMBER is real proud of themselves for treating me how they did and for threatening me and berating me. everyday i do the best i can to function and every day it is a challenge. i have not been given long to live and have no interest in spending my money at a place that is so elitist as to treat people the way i was treated today. SHAME ON YOU TAHOE CITY LUMBER! perhaps one of these days you too might find yourself in a health crisis and perhaps then you will understand what it means and how it feels to be nauseous with cancer. try to put yourself in the shoes of others...you never know what another person is going through so stop being so self righteous!

Yeah, they really do not want your business. There is one sort of nice guy behind the counter, and the other, huskier one, is the worst. He should go home and quit ruining this business. He must have trained the younger, fair-haired, curly-haired, huskier kid who works in the yard. They won't waste syllables on you and will not waste eye contact with you. And, if that isn't bad enough, they are sarcastic! They do not care. You have to plead for any assistance. And, if you ask a question, you get SNAPPED AT !!! They have some good inventory, for the most part, so my husband and I go there ... ONLY if we absolutely have to! Maybe they just want only professionals shopping there. Although my husband should qualify as a professional now after completely renovating our Tahoe home himself! If you are a do-it-yourselfer or homeowner, don't go there!! Go to Truckee-Tahoe Lumber back up the road in Tahoe City on the opposite side of the street! I agree with reviewer William B from one year ago.

if i could make it a neg star i would..asked to use the rest room when waiting for my purchase and was directed to a disgusting porta potty. asked again and was told their bathroom was not ada compliant. then, she told me no dogs were allowed. spoke to contractor friend who told me he uses the real bathroom all the time there. also, been in there before and seen many dogs and they even have dog cookies up front! denise discriminates against women and dogs. go to SWIGARDS down the street has what you need and they are sooo nice and friendly..denise, owner, is rude, lies, and will be getting a call from the ada.
